Culture
First entry slot. Empty Parthenon is a different building.
Expect a slower-paced stop where the value is in the story — bring a guide app or a paper map, and budget time to actually read the plaques rather than rush from photo to photo.
About 3 hours is realistic with photos, breaks, and a sit-down somewhere nearby. Easy to slot beside one other activity. Based in Athens (Attica). Map it before you leave the hotel so you arrive from the right side of the entrance.
Culture
Pair with the actual site for full context.

Tavernas, Cycladic alleys hidden under the Acropolis.

Food
Varvakios market, then make moussaka, tzatziki, baklava.
This is one to do hungry and unhurried. Cash helps at smaller counters, English menus aren't guaranteed, and the best stalls tend to sell out long before closing time.

Food
Tiny ouzeris around Iroon Square; raki shots between courses.

Day trip
Temple of Poseidon, two hours by bus from central Athens.
Treat it as its own mini-itinerary. Lock in your return transport before you set off, and try not to cram a second stop on the same day unless distances are short.

Best time to visit
Peak: May, Jun, Sep, Oct
Late May to mid-June and September are the Greece you imagined — warm sea, half-empty ferries, Santorini photogenic instead of overrun. July–August on the islands is a beautiful disaster; Athens hits 40°C and the Acropolis becomes a queue with a view.
Right now (Jun)
Ideal — average 30°C, expect warm.

Greece in July is a beautiful disaster — too hot, too crowded, ferry queues for blocks. Greece in late May or September is the trip you actually wanted. Athens deserves at least two days; the islands deserve as many as you can give them. The Cycladic chain (Naxos, Paros, Milos, Santorini) is the classic loop.
Ferries are the bus system here. Book on Ferryhopper in advance during high season.
