Privacy policy

Getawaychecklist.com ("we", "us") is an independent travel publication. We try to collect as little personal data as possible. This page explains, in plain English, what data touches our site and what your rights are.
What we collect directly
Almost nothing. Getawaychecklist.com does not require an account, has no login, no comment system, and no on-site advertising. We do not store your IP address, set tracking cookies, or build a profile of you across pages.
The only time we receive personal data directly is when you choose to email us via the contact page. That message arrives in our inbox (Gmail) and is stored there for as long as we need it to reply and keep a reasonable record. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Cookies
We do not set any first-party tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Your browser may store small functional preferences (e.g. which packing-checklist items you've ticked, which itinerary days are expanded) in localStorage. That data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us.
Third-party affiliate links
When you click an affiliate link on this site (Saily, NordVPN, GetYourGuide, Amazon), you leave Getawaychecklist.com and arrive on the partner's site. From that point, the partner's own privacy policy and cookies apply — typically including a tracking cookie that lets them attribute the referral to us so we can earn a commission (at no cost to you).
We don't see your purchase details. The partner sends us aggregated reports — clicks, conversion counts, commission earned — never your name, email, or what you bought. Read the full breakdown on our affiliate disclosure page.
Embedded content
Some pages embed images hosted by third parties (e.g. Unsplash). When your browser loads these images, the host may receive your IP address and user-agent as part of a normal HTTP request. We don't control or share data with these hosts beyond what your browser sends automatically.
Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you're in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with similar law, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you (likely: just your past emails, if any).
- Ask us to correct or delete that data.
- Object to or restrict our processing of it.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at getawaychecklist@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we materially change how we handle data — for example, by adding analytics or a newsletter — we'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date above before the change goes live.
