"The two most polished travel destinations in East Asia, separated by a 90-minute flight."
Japan and Korea are easy to do badly — too many cities, too much shinkansen, no time to absorb. This pacing keeps you in each base long enough to break the surface. Plan around cherry blossoms (late March to mid-April) or autumn leaves (mid-November).
Best season
Late March–April (sakura) or November (koyo)
Budget
$180–260 per person per day
Pace
Balanced — heavy walking, light logistics
