Days 1–6

Sydney highlights — Opera House, Bondi-to-Coogee walk. Fly to Cairns for a Great Barrier Reef snorkel or dive day.
Days 7–9

Fly to Ayers Rock. Sunrise + sunset at Uluru, Bruce Munro's Field of Light, Kings Canyon rim walk if you have a spare day.
Days 10–14

Fly south. Coffee culture, laneway galleries, a Great Ocean Road drive to the Twelve Apostles, a Yarra Valley day for wine.
Days 15–21

Fly to Auckland. Drive south via Rotorua geysers, Hobbiton, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, finishing in Wellington.
Days 22–28

Ferry across the Cook Strait. Kaikoura whales, Christchurch, Queenstown adventure base, Milford Sound day cruise, fly out from Christchurch.
Side trip

Detour up the West Coast from Queenstown — a heli-hike onto the Franz Josef ice face is the only way to actually walk on it (the terminal face has retreated past the valley floor). Combine with Lake Matheson's mirror-reflection sunrise the next morning.
